Nina Fourie-Gouws

LA FEMME! at Woordfees 2019

6 March 2019 – 20:30
9 March 2019 – 13:00

Internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer, Tanya Diamond, and concert guitarist and Stellenbosch Conservatorium lecturer, Nina Fourie-Gouws, combine artistic forces in LA FEMME! This visually and auditorily captivating production combines the passion, fire and intensity of contemporary solo Flamenco dance with the rich, complex and sensuous sounds of Classical Guitar.

Tanya Diamond started her professional dance career at the age of 15 after being spotted by the internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer Antonio del Castillo. She studied dance in Spain and has taught in New York and Los Angeles. Nina Fourie-Gouws maintains an active concert schedule throughout Southern Africa and recently performed as a featured artist at the Volterra Guitar Project, in Italy.

Tanya and Nina embrace the rich Spanish tradition of music and dance while exploring new sonic possibilities of contemporary classical repertoire. Traditional Spanish accompaniment, including castanets, cajon – a square drum – and palmas – a form of hand-clapping or guitar tapping – will be provided by members of the SoloFLAMENCO studio.
